Jayhawks walk hard in Popcorn Fart Bowl

At least it's a fruit
I didn't think the Kansas Jayhawks' football team had it in them. To go in primetime to the Orange Bowl and beat the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Don't get me wrong: I don't regret or deny doubting them all season and when Missouri beat them late in the season I wasn't surprised because they hadn't played anyone. Then again, to win as many games as they did in this crazy college season you had to have something.

Todd Reesing might have something. I don't necessarily like him, nor do I truly think he has a ton of inherent talent, none more than about 25 quarterbacks in college.

But he has an innate ability to win football games. Unlike Vince Young, however, he doesn't conjure this ability from his talent, but he seems like a calm, collected dude who identifies the hurdle and extracts some strategy of jumping it.

And Mark Mangino is fat. Seriously, there's a 50 percent chance that he falls dead to a heart attack over the off season, right? Can't KU get him a trainer and dietician. Hell, they're a university. They have whole programs dedicated to this.

So three cheers for those Jayhawks (Big XII ends the bowl season with a nice 5-3 record ... thanks a lot OU). Certainly, it'll be interesting what they do next year.

On a completely different note, Virginia Tech is so cool to watch. Think about it: an entire team built around the ability to not only play solid special teams but to win through special teams. Score touchdowns. Why don't more teams do this? It almost won them this game and probably more than a couple of times it's bailed them out during the season. Fascinating.
