Maggette spaghetti

Sam I Am, still with a little spark

February is nigh and NBA vets are starting to rattle their cages.

Trades are coming. Suddenly, Dallas has a gimpy point guard heading into a stretch of games against Boston, Detroit and Orlando.

Will the Mavs make a move? Will they make a move for some of these unhappy fellows?

Jason Kidd
He made more noise yesterday about wanting out of New Jersey. The more he gripes, the more his price drops. But with Devin Harris out indefinitely, Kidd's price to Dallas goes up. Other than picks, what does Dallas have to offer that New Jersey wants?

Corey Maggette
Accorrding to a note from David Moore in the Dallas Morning News, a deal was on the table for the Clippers to swap Corey Maggette for Jason Terry. The deal was nixed. Nonetheless, Maggette is in year three of his trading block status. Who knows how many deals like that have been cut down. Giving up Terry would leave the Mavs even shorter at point guard, but solidify their bench position at the No. 2 and 3 spots. I really like Maggette's game. Moore is correct stating that Maggette's more athletic and capable of taking it to the rim. With Harrris down, dealing Terry may be out of the question ...

Sam Cassell
... unless the Clips include Cassell in the deal. Roll with him starting and J.J. Barea as the back-up. A trade including Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse/Trenton Hassell/Devean George works, moneywise.

Damon Stoudamire
He's been bought out by the Grizz and is a free agent. I doubt he has a ton of gas left in the tank, but the Mavs can't be choosey. He'd come on board for the cash without shaking up your line-up. Instant offense, very little D.

Mike James
Interesting. It was two years ago that the guy gave the Mavs headaches in the playoffs. The Mavs flirted with him the next off-season, didn't bite and he bombed in Milwaukee. Now he's back south and the Rockets may be look to unload. Don't know what he problem is, but he could be valuable and had cheaply.

Mike Bibby
It makes a Mavs' fan knees weak thinking about bringing in a former Kings player from those early-2000s teams, but it's no secret Bibby can be had. Unfortunately, Bibby's a starter getting paid starter money ($13.5 million) and once Harris returns where does he fit? Also, Sac-town's rebuilding and I doubt they'd want the likes of Terry, Stack, et al.
