UT's balls drop, Jayhawk dominates
College basketball has my full, undivided attention.
College football is kaput. Pro football is pretty much dead. Mavericks and Stars don't take a lot of my time on weekends.
So that leaves college basketball. Caught Colorado-Texas A&M over the weekend. Nothing like Big XII basketball to soothe the ravaged soul.
No. 3 Kansas (17-0, 2-0)
No reason why the Jayhawks shouldn't get to 20-0, but nothing is given once they get to conference play. If you really look at it, they have just two good wins. Maybe three.
No. 10 Texas A&M (15-1, 1-0)
What's most impressive about the Ags isn't who they're beating as much as how bad they're beating them. They've beaten their opponents by about 20 almost every game since their only loss.
No. 19 Texas (13-3, 0-1)
Losses in three of their last five? Starting conference play with a silly loss to Mizzou by 13? With OSU, Tech and A&M looming? They could have three losses in conference by February.
TCU (9-6, 1-1)
Pretty ordinary team as it turns out. Remarkable that they won four straight, lost three straight, won four straight and lost three straight. If it holds to form, they'll win the next three. Unlikely against Utah and New Mexico.
SMU (6-8, 0-1)
A pretty maddening team. What direction does Matt Doherty have them headed? They simply get outplayed every game. In every facet. Who's Hawaii's basketball coach?
UTA (10-4, 0-2)
Another team we're finding out about. Lost four of last six. And that Northwestern State loss wasn't bad despite them being 6-10 overall. Look at Northwestern's schedule. Geez.
SFA (13-2, 1-0)
The loss at Nicholls State was a kick in the nuts, but they're still on track to take the conference.
UNT (12-4, 3-2)
I bet the Mean Green are happy with their 3-2 conference record (including three straight after starting 0-2), but I also would bet they want those Troy and Denver games back. Considering, they know they should've won those and started 5-0.
