Do you feel a draft?
Mike Jenkins: $10 says he's pounding Dallas strip clubs with Pacman in eight monthsI am wont to remember a busier weekend in Dallas sports.
Golf, Rangers, Mavericks, Stars and the NFL draft.
The NFL Draft is interesting. It's important, no doubt, but it's one of the few sports events where the journey (the grueling hour upon hour of picking players) is not as valuable as the destination (the actual picks, who got whom).
Other than Mel Kiper rambling about some third-round safety's weaknesses, it's not that interesting. To each his own.
As for the Cowboys, it's a mixed bag, I guess.
Personally, I'm not that impressed. Yahoo! gave them a B+. So did ESPN. CBS gave them an A. And Fox gave them an A-. Blogging the Boys? B. So, screw me.
The picks:
22. Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
I think we all knew he was going to be taken. Probably a little too early and right ahead of Rashard Mendenhall. Obviously, everyone will track both their progress in the league, but that would've happened no matter who the Cowboys took.
28. Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Some are saying attitude issues forced him to drop. Most are saying this is the steal of the draft. Supposedly, ready to play already in the NFL.
66. Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M
Are we still taking blocking tight ends this early?
122. Tashard Choice, RB, Georgia Tech
A very good runner in college.
143. Orlando Scandrick, CB, Boise State
Some are saying attitude issues forced him to drop. Most are saying this is the steal of the draft. Hold on, the same exact thing is being said about Jenkins. So we have Jenkins, Scandrick and Pacman Jones on this team. Yah!
167. Erik Walden, DE, Middle Tennessee State
He'll move to linebacker. This is what you traded for Jason Ferguson, FYI. Probably won't even make the team.
My problems with this draft is that a number of solid receivers fell hard and aside from a possible move to get Indiana's James Hardy (which would've been great), there was no visible interest in moving up and getting Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, Limas Sweed, DeSean Jackson or even Mario Manningham. All fell to the second or third round. Maybe there will be better receiving drafts, but rarely will those guys fall in the second round. Instead, they draft a blocking tight end. Again.
