Colonial leaderboard
My bud Skidmark Steve loves low golf scores. Says he likes to know the golfers are having a hard go on the course. Likes them being humble.
Me, on the other hand, like high scores. Unlike team sports, there is no defense in golf. Phil Mickelson can't try to disrupt Geoff Ogilvy from making a putt. It's Ogilvy against the course.
And I want the course to lose.
On a windy Thursday, players had their way with the Colonial course. Some pretty high scores which should translate to being well under par by Sunday.
A look at the movers and shakers:
Johnson Wagner -- -7
Who? Has only made seven of 14 tourney cuts, but does have a win at the Shell Houston Open. Chances are, he won't be in contention by Sunday.
Phil Mickelson -- -5
I consider this tournament Mickelson's to lose.
Ian Poulter -- -2
A pretty boring round. A couple birdies, a couple bogies.
Scott Verplank -- -1
An ugly bogey on the par-5 11 hurt. Otherwise, a par round.
Kenny Perry -- E
An awful front nine screwed him.
Jim Furyk -- +1
Hasn't had the greatest of years. Not being a long hitter, Furyk struggled with those par fives.
Rory Sabbatini -- +1
Started hot this year with two top 3 finishes. Since, he's tailed off mightily. Probably won't defend his title.
Geoff Ogilvy -- +2
Another guy who had his lunch eaten on the front nine. Another young guy who hasn't parlayed last year's success into 2008 wins.
K.J. Choi -- +3
Certainly, Colonial organizers hoped the top 10 world players would be under par, at least. Not so much.
