Experience vs. Home Court and the NBA playoffs

Are we gutsy enough to bet against this dude?
Last night was a lesson. Just when we think sports is a science, something that can be predicted and relied upon, it throws us for a loop.

We thought that the home-court rule that has laid waste to the 2008 NBA playoffs would prevail and the New Orleans Hornets would drum the old San Antonio Spurs in game 7 last night ... in New Orleans.

Not so. The Spurs showed they know exactly how to win a game 7 on the road and dispensed with the Hornets in pretty short order. Don't feel bad for the Hornets. They're a really good, young team. They'll be back. The Spurs gotta win while they can.

But it goes to show you how valuable playoff experience (and giant sets of testicles) is in the NBA. It's tantamount.

On another note, it is simply ridiculous how good a sports prognosticator I am. So far this playoffs, I'm 11 for 12, and I nailed the Cleveland-Boston series on the head.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Lakers
I had the Lakers losing in seven to the Jazz. Part my love for the Jazz, part my hatred for the Lakers. Somebody must take down the Lakers. I just wish it wasn't the overly-hated Spurs. This is about match ups like most series. Can Bruce Bowen contain Kobe Bryant? Doubtful. Can Tim Duncan and Co. contain Pau Gasol? Most definitely. Can Jordan Farmar hold Tony Parker's jock? Nope. If Parker wanted to, he can do what Deron Williams did to the Lakers to make this interesting.

Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics
So far, this has been one of the worst playoff seasons in a long time. A couple of close series, but no close games and a ton of shitty, anticlimatic endings. But I do admit that probably the four best teams in the league are in the final four. What we're all trying to determine is how good or bad this Celtics team is. The Hawks and Cavs have taken them seven in two series. The Pistons have cruised a little bit more, but they've taken their lumps. The question is: Who turns it on first? Give me the Pistons, but somehow the NBA will rig the Celts-Lakers Finals. This is going to happen. Bank on it.
