Rangers trade Mench

Shrek, headed to Canada
The Texas Rangers traded outfielder Kevin Mench to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash today.

Not surprising. Mench was an older piece in the outfield-DH smorgasbord the Rangers were dealing with. As part of his contract, if Mench wasn't with the Rangers by June 1, he could be released. That was bound to happen. Might as well get something for him.

Mench, 30, was hitting .282 with three homers, 18 RBI and a .464 slugging.

So that simplifies the outfield a bit more. It leaves Frank Catalanotto, Brandon Boggs, David Murphy, Milton Bradley, Josh Hamilton, Marlon Byrd, John Mayberry Jr., Nelson Cruz and (gulp!) Jason Botts (who could be next).
