Falling into place
OK, if this is the way the Texas Rangers are going to start playing, then let's chalk up 90 wins.
Impossible. Inconceivable. Prepostorous, even.
But here they are officially two games over .500 on July 1 with 43 stinkin' wins all thanks to a breathtaking 2-1 win in Yankee Stadium last night.
If 5-1 and 2-1 victories are going to be fairly commonplace, there's no reason they can't win some of the 8-7 games and pull a little winning streak out of their hats.
If the bullpen continues on even 85 percent of their recent output and the starters can go into the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. If the offense can do just enough.
If, if, if. All will come out in the wash. One thing's for sure: GM Jon Daniels and manager Ron Washington have turned this thing into a quality winner.
Notes:
1. Last four games for the bullpen: 15.1 IP - 6 hits - 2 ER - 2 walks - 15 Ks. That will win you more games than not.
2. C.J. Wilson looks like he's back in control, throwing strikes.
3. After a threw Frank Francisco under the bus last week, he's reeled off 6 IP with one hit and no runs.
4. Chris Davis: Three games, three extra-base hits.
5. Scott Feldman is an enigma. I have no clue where he fits despite being only 25 years old. But all he does is eat innings and induce grounder after grounder. He's surely playing himself into a lock in the rotation next year.
