Redskins get the hottest guy in the NFL
Sexpot defensive end Jason Taylor is a Washington Redskin.
All thanks to a trade between the NFC East bunkmates and the Miami Dolphins, who's been itching to trade their best defender since Bill Parcells was named Emperor of the franchise.
The Dolphins got a second round draft pick in 2009 and a sixth rounder in 2010. See: Not very much.
However, that's are things are nowadays in the NFL. Randy Moss was traded for a fourth rounder. If a team wants a player gone and wants that cap space, they're willing to let draft picks loose.
This affects the Dallas Cowboys on two fronts -- one indirect and one not.
First of all, this doesn't make the Redskins any better. The reason they went after Taylor is because starting end Phillip Daniels went down with a season-ending injury in practice. They're replacing one guy for another. Not adding one Pro Bowler in lieu of Shante Carver.
The Redskins, annually, are overrated. It'll happen this season. You'll have some rogue ESPN analysts picking them to take the NFC East and then the blogosphere will be all abuzz about how stout that 'Skins defense is and how none of their defensive backs were shot. Blah, blah, blah.
Two, this is typical Parcells protocol. We saw it here in Dallas and now the Dolphins are seeing it. Parcells went in and started purging and if it meant getting rid of one of the best defenders in the league, then so be it. The old is out. Taylor, Parcells felt, was not going to fit in his operation.
The strategy, strangely, is this: He'd rather play a worse player that he knows than a good player that he doesn't.
It makes no sense.
The kicker is that if the Dolphins started winning games this year, I wouldn't be entirely too surprised.
So it's interesting to see a rival make a big move like that. It's also going to be interesting to see Parcells work his voodoo in Miami.
