Free agency notes

Curtis Granderson
According to T.R. Sullivan, he suspects that Rangers free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd will get three years, $18-24 million. About right. But why are we spending $8 milloin a year for a non-power hitting outfielder (when we have many outfielders), but we're scared to take on a big pitching contract (say, Javy Vazquez) in a trade? Ridiculous!

Ken Rosenthal reports that Omar Vizquel will not return to the Rangers. He doesn't mind the utility role. He wants to play on a higher profile team. Seriously? What a douche. It's one thing to want to play on a west or east coast team depending on where you live or whatever. But to jump ship to go to a place that gets more ESPN coverage or whatever is just silly. I hope he ends up in Washington.

The Detroit Tigers are clearing payroll. Word on the street (lying ... there is no street) is that centerfielder Curtis Granderson is available. Love the guy. He is a puck mover of the highest order and would sit at the top of your line-up every night. Has a little bit more of a sophisticated bat with the ability to go to all fields and hit for a little power. If we're discussing Jermaine Dye, Marlon Byrd or Mike Cameron, why not Granderson. Granted, the Tigers would want something of value in return.
